This is the touching and sensitive story about a lion who was not happy being a lion and wished he had been born a butterfly. The book takes you on his journey through all of its ups and downs until he achieves his dream.
The unhappy lion is a book about how it feels to be born in the wrong body. The story of Leo tells us how it affected every part of his life including his diet. How the other animals laughed at him and teased him, but Leo knew what he wanted to be. He goes on a quest and finds someone who will help him change, but its not an easy decision to make and he must be sure. We also meet Redd who is also struggling with who he is and see how Leo’s experiences help him to make a very important decision too. The book celebrates that ‘Everyone should have the chance to be who they want to be’. Which can apply to so many situations in life. The book was written by parents and children from Tir y Berth Primary School, Caerphilly, supported by a community storyteller Mike Church and beautifully illustrated by Kelly Rosser.
Profits from this book are split between Umbrella Cymru and Caerphilly Parent Network, and go back into developing support services for young people. We know the world can be a scary place for young people if they feel a bit different, and we want to help spread the message of diversity and work to prevent bullying in all forms.
